IIT Ropar PhD Application Form 2019

Applicants are required to submit an application fee of Rs.200/- (for SC/ST Rs.100/-) in favour of Registrar, IIT Ropar, Account No. 30836125653, IFSC Code SBIN0013181, State Bank of India, IIT Ropar.

Applicants are required to send the Demand Draft (DD) by post to the Department/School where they are applying quoting the reference No. of the Application.

Interested applicants must send the application form (application form can be downloaded from the Institute website www.iitrpr.ac.in for all branches except SMMEE with a brief description of their research interests to the Institute administration at the following email [email protected] or by post to, Assistant Registrar, Academics, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, Nangal Road, Rupnagar-140001, Punjab.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria and areas of research for each department are given below:

Engineering

Computer Science and Engineering

Eligibility Criteria: M.Tech / M.E / M.S or equivalent qualification in computer science and engineering or equivalent degree with 60 percent marks (or 6.5-grade point out of 10) (55 percent marks for SC/ST).

However, exceptional applicants having B.Tech / B.E qualification with valid GATE score can apply for direct admission to PhD program.

An applicant with a Bachelor’s degree from an IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from the requirement of GATE qualification.

Areas of Research: Activity Recognition, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Pervasive Health Care, Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology, Cyber-Physical Systems, Sensor Networks, Participatory Sensing, Wireless Networks, Energy Management.

Electrical Engineering

Eligibility Criteria: First Class (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) or 60 percent marks in M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electrical / Electronics / Communications / Computer Science / Instrumentation Engineering or Microelectronics / Solid-state Technologies / MEMS / Nano Science / Nano Technology / Material Science / Engineering Physics or equivalent, relevant to the area of Research.

Areas of Research: Renewable Energy, Mixed Signal Analog and RF VLSI Circuits and Systems, Semiconductor Devices and Nanoelectronics and Image and Video Processing.

School of Mechanical, Materials, and Energy Engineering

Eligibility Criteria: To apply for Ph.D. in SMMEE, an applicant must satisfy one of the following criteria

i) Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering / Technology.

i) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering / Technology; applicants should have obtained at least 60 percent marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master’s; or.

ii) Master’s degree in Sciences with a valid score in GATE / UGC / CSIR / NET / NBHM or equivalent qualification.

Applicants should have obtained at least 60 percent marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master’s; or.

iii) Exceptional applicants having B.Tech / B.E qualification with valid GATE score can apply for direct admission to Ph.D. program.

An applicant with a Bachelor’s degree from an IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from the requirement of GATE qualification to apply.

Areas of Research: Bio-Medical (BM), Design & Analysis (DA), Manufacturing & Materials (MM), Thermo-Fluid (TF).

Sciences

Chemistry: First class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60 percent marks (55 percent marks for SC/ST) in master or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry/Materials Science and Technology / Pharmaceutical Sciences / Biotechnology.

Applicants meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for the current year.

a) Valid GATE score

b) UGC/CSIR-NET qualification

c) DST-INSPIRE fellowship

Area of Research: Electronic Structure Calculations, Quantum Dynamics, Nanomaterials, Electrocatalysis, Fuel Cell/Batteries, Catalysis and Materials Synthesis, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Homogeneous Catalysis, Polymeric biomaterials for Drug Delivery, Inorganic and Organometallics Chemistry and Supramolecular Organic Synthesis.

Mathematics

Eligibility Criteria: First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60 percent marks (55 percent marks for SC/ST) in Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences or equivalent Master’s Degree.

Applicants meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for the current year:

a) Valid GATE score

b) UGC/CSIR NET qualified or NBHM or equivalent qualification

c) DST-INSPIRE Fellowship

Areas of Research: All areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics

Physics

Eligibility Criteria: First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60 percent marks (55 percent marks for SC / ST) in M.Sc. in Physics / B.Tech in Engineering Physics.

Applicants meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for the current year:

a) Valid GATE score.

b) UGC/CSIR NET qualification

C) DST-INSPIRE Fellowship

Areas of Research: Nuclear Structure and Neutrino Physics, Experimental Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter/Nano-Physics, Nonlinear Laser Spectroscopy and Biophotonics.

Humanities and Social Sciences

Eligibility Criteria: 55 percent (or 6 grade point out of 10) in M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Com / MBA with UGC-NET. However, exceptional applicants having B.Tech / B.E qualification with valid GATE score can apply for direct admission to PhD programme.

An applicant with a Bachelor’s degree from an IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from the requirement of GATE qualification to apply.

Areas of Research

1) English Literature: American Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Modern Fiction, Postcolonial Studies.

2) Linguistics: Morphology, Optimality Theory, and Phonology.

3) Economics: Applied Econometrics, Open Economy Macroeconomics, International Economics and Finance, Industrial and Urban Economics, Economic Geography and Regional Spillover.

IIT Ropar Phd Admission Selection Procedure

Selection will be based on written test followed by interview,mere fulfillment of the above mentioned qualifications does not entitle a applicant to be called for PhD entrance exam.

TA will be provided to the shortlisted applicants appearing for Entrance Exam
