TISSNET 2020 – Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) announces full-time (regular) admission Post Graduate Degree Programs (MA, MSc, MHA and MPH) offered from Mumbai, Taljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses and other locations. Applicants can apply for a maximum of 3 programs across any of the 2 campuses indicating the order of preference.

TISSNET 2020 Application Form

Applicants are required to apply online through the e-application only, available on the Institute’s website http://admissions.tiss.edu.

Applicants from remote places where no internet and telecommunication facilities are available can get a printed copy of the application form from the Institute.

Applicants apply through the online application form only. Following are the steps involved in filling up the form.

After login Applicants have to fill in their basic details, academic details and have to mention the programs they wish to apply for in the order of preference.

Pay the application fee (depending on number of programs applied) either by depositing cash in any branch of SBI or through Credit card / Debit Card / Net Banking and Scan and upload photograph, signature, mark-sheet of last exam passed and other necessary certificates.

Applicants having lack of access to internet services (remote area) can write to Mumbai campus for printed application form.

They have to the application form and submit before last date of submission.

Applicants can apply for multiple programs and pay for all the programs in one online form and should not fill more than one online form.

If an Applicant is found to have filled more than one form, all his / her applications will be cancelled.

Application Fee Details

  • Applying for 1 Programme – Rs.1000/- + Bank Charges
  • Applying for 2 Programmes – Rs.2000/- + Bank Charges
  • Applying for 3 Programmes – Rs.3000/- + Bank Charges

Eligibility Criteria for TISSNET 2020

Applicants having a bachelor’s degree with the minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent ( under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognized university are eligible to apply.

In such cases, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programs of the Institute will be provisional.

If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year examination, the offer of provisional admission automatically stands canceled.

Applicants applying for the Master of Public Health Policy, Economics and Finance, and Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology programs should have a master’s degree in any discipline, or bachelor’s degree in medicine, paramedical and other four-year programs like pharmacy, veterinary sciences, engineering, etc.

Applicants applying for the Master of Health Administration and Hospital Administration should have successfully completed their graduate degree in any discipline, or bachelor’s degree in medicine, paramedical, and other four year programs like pharmacy, veterinary sciences, engineering, etc.

Applicants who are in their final year bachelor’s degree program are not eligible to apply for admission to any of the master’s degree programs conducted by School of Health Systems Studies (Health Administration, Hospital Administration; Public Health in Social Epidemiology; and Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance).

Applicants applying for the M.A. / M.Sc in Urban Policy and Governance program should have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with interest habitat-related issues/sectors.

For M.A. Disability Studies and Action program, preference will be given to Applicants who have a graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, and disability rehabilitation-related fields.

Graduates with at least 2years experience in the field of disability or social welfare will be preferred.

Only Applicants with a master’s degree and work experience will be considered for the one year, full-time master’s degree programs in the management of voluntary organizations and mental health.

Those who do not possess a master’s degree and a minimum 3years experience need not apply.

For M.A. in Applied Psychology with Specializations in Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology, preference will be given to those Applicants who have a graduate degree / B.A. in Psychology; B.A. / B.Sc Home Science with specialization in Child / Human Development; B.A. Social Work, B.A. General-with minimum 3 papers in Psychology.

LL.M in Access to Justice: LLB Degree with 55 percent marks (50percent in case of SC / ST / OBC (NC) / Children of the Employees of Armed Forces / Persons with Disability).

The Applicants appearing in final LLB Examination in April / May 2019 can also apply.

TISSNET Exam Pattern 2020

National Entrance Test (TISS-NET) is computer-based; it will be held on 04th January 2020 from 02.00 pm to 03.40 pm in 35 centres (below mentioned) in different parts of the country.

Northern Region (Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Noida, Varanasi, Greater Noida, Mohali).

Eastern Region (Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Dimapur, Silchar, Patna)

Western Region (Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Solapur, Navi-Mumbai, Thane).

Southern Region (Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Calicut, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode).

The online test is of objective type and even those with a rudimentary knowledge of working with a computer can take the test.

Duration of Test: 01 hour 40 minutes.

In case an Applicant desires to do the test on paper, he/she must this indicate this in the application form The objective test will have questions related to social sensitivity, knowledge on contemporary issues; analytical ability, and logical reasoning.

TISSNET 2020 Syllabus

TISSNET Syllabus 2020 will contain several topics from the General Awareness, English Proficiency, Maths & Logical Reasoning section.

General Awareness: The General Awareness section will be of 40 marks and is proposed to consist of 40 questions in MCQ format. GA syllabus will cover the following important topics: Environment and ecology, Politics, history, governance, law, Economy, policy Gender, health, education, Labour, Sports etc.

English Proficiency: The questions will be on verbal ability and will command the lions share in English proficiency sections.

Verbal Ability: The verbal ability section will cover the following important topics: Antonyms, Analogies, Odd word out, Fill in the blanks, Idioms, Error spotting, Word substitution, Sentence correction

Reading Comprehension: In Reading Comprehension, the questions will be usually straight and can be solved with attentive reading of passages. Questions will be related to:Purpose of the Passage, Strengthen and weaken, Flaw and discrepancy, Maine idea of the passage, Authors point of view, etc.

Mathematics: Mathematics will be of 30 marks. The topics on which questions will be based are: Profit & loss, Averages, Ratio and proportion, Percentage, etc.

Logical Reasoning: It is expected that there would be 15 questions on logical reasoning out of the total questions in the Mathematics sections. Important topics in syllabus are as follow: Number series, Alphabet series. Eye of detail, Logical connectivity, Puzzles, Venn diagrams, Cubes, etc.

Data Interpretation: The topics in the Data Interpretation will be – Bar graph, Table, Pie chart, Case lets, Line graph etc.

TISSNET 2020 Selection Procedure

The selection of Applicants for different programs happens in two stages and has three components of assessment; all Applicants appear for the National Entrance Test (TISSNET).

Based on the performance in the TISSNET 2020 examination, only shortlisted Applicants are called for the Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview (PIT/PI).

i) National Common Written Test – 100 Marks; ii) Pre-Interview Test / GD – 50 Marks; iii) Personal Interview – 75 Marks; Total – 225 Marks.


As per Govt. of India norms, Mumbai, Tuljapur and Hyderabad Campuses provide 15percent, 7.5percent and 27 percent reservation to SC/ST and OBC (non-creamy layer) for each of the programmes.
