UGC NET Exam 2018 for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor by National Testing Agency
The applicants who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) area unit eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in an exceedingly connected subject and also are eligible for Assistant Professor. UGC NET 2018 Application Form
UGC NET 2018 Application Form – Applicants can fill the application through online mode only. This exam is organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of UGC. It is a national level eligibility test. It is the eligibility test for Indian nationals to become an Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship.
How to Apply for UGC NET 2018
By following the steps given below, students can fill the UGC NET 2018 application form:
- Students must visit the official website link of UGC NET (link is given above).
- Click on the link related to “Apply for NET December 2018”.
- Go through the “New Applicant Registration” section.
- Click on the “Apply for December 2018” option.
- Read all the instructions carefully and click on “Proceed to Apply Online”.
- The authentication form will be opened on the screen.
- Enter details like Nationality, State/UT which you belongs, Select Identification Type, Identification Number, Applicant’s Name, DOB, Gender, etc.
- After filling the details, click on the “Submit” button.
- Once the authentication process is done, Applicants can proceed to fill the application.
- Applicants have to fill all the required details in the application form.
- After submitting the details, an Application Number will be generated.
- Upload the scanned images of latest photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
- Now, pay the application fee through online or offline method.
- After completing the fee payment, Applicants have to take the printout of the confirmation page and keep it safe.
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
Applicants who have secured at least 55 percent marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with disability (PWD) category Applicants who have secured at least 50 percent marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
Applicants who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR Applicants whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such Applicants will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship / eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55 percent marks (50 percent marks in case of OBC (Non-creamy layer) / SC / ST / PWD (Persons with disability) category Applicants). Such Applicants should complete their Postgraduate degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
The PhD degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5 percent in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55 percent to 50 percent) for appearing in NET.
Applicants are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The Applicants, whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.
Applicants belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer) / SC / ST / PWD category are required to submit attested copy of the category Certificate along with online printout of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other applicants are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility along with the printout of their Application Form. Therefore, the applicants, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the UGC / CBSE at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
Applicants having post-graduate diploma / certificate awarded by Indian University / Institute or foreign degree / diploma / certificate awarded by the foreign University / Institute must in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma / degree / certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

Age Limit and Relaxation
- Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 30 years as on 01st December 2018. A relaxation up to 5 years is provided to the applicants belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on the website: www.ncbc.nic.in) / SC / ST / PWD categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the Applicants having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on the production of a certificate from appropriate authority. 3 years relaxation in age will be permissible to the applicants possessing LLM Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.
- Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.
EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR)
NET / SLET / SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. Provided however, that applicants, who are or have been awarded a PhD Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET / SLET / SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions.
The applicants who have passed the UGC / CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.
For SET Applicants: The applicants who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st Dec 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified applicants are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

UGC NET Application Fee
The UGC NET December 2018 application fee can be paid by credit card/ debit card or through e-Challan (Syndicate/Canara/ICICI Bank). The application fee for UGC NET December 2018 is given as:
- For General – Rs. 1000/-
- OBC-NCL – Rs. 500/-
- SC/ ST/ PwD/ Transgender – Rs. 250/-
Applicants need to apply for UGC NET in online mode only and there is no need of sending the hard copy of the application form to the concerned authority. However, the Applicants must keep a copy of the UGC NET application form 2018 with them in case of future use.
UGC NET Scheme and Exam Schedule
The UGC NET Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 09th December 2018 to 23rd December 2018 in two separate sessions as under:
First (Paper-I): 100 Marks (50 out of which 50 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 1 Hours (09.30 AM to 10.30 AM, IST)].
Second (Paper-II): 200 Marks (100 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 2 Hours (11.00 AM to 01.00 PM, IST)].
Paper-I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the Applicant. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the Applicant.
Paper-II shall consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks which will be based on the subject selected by the Applicant. All the questions of Paper-II will be compulsory, covering entire syllabi of earlier Paper II & Paper-III (including all electives, without options).
An applicant will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I & Paper-II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.
Detailed instructions for filling up the OMR sheet are given on page 16 and 17. It may be noted that these instructions to Applicants will not be sent to any of the Applicant by post.
